My dear friend,
I leave you for the night with another one of my best poems. Enjoy.
She can't look at him
He's shrouded in a haze of mascara-muddled tears
She looks like a cinematic goddess
Her eyes are ringed in charcoal, pulled from the heart of the fire
Tears streaming down her face
Lips full and scarlet
He looks like he belongs somewhere
Too tall, too perfect
She can't look at him
She can barely see him
Through the pain in the air
The smoke from her burnt out cigarette
Turns the scene dramatic
He says goodbye, for the final time
And she pretends he can't hurt her
She pretends she's in a silent film
She looks like she belongs there, or nowhere
He doesn't understand her
Silent screams of hers that no one hears
It's a perfect hell they shared together
Now it's dissolved, tossed to the flames
They were in love until it killed them both
Dead now, they stare each other down
She's been forgotten and can't get up
He's been pushed too far, there's no turning back
But they keep their feet planted
And they stare
They break eye contact
Both of them know that they're not a movie
It ends, the way it's always been meant to
Like a sunset, inevitable
And as their lives change and stay the same, neither is surprised
With all my love,
Alyssa
